This
holiday season my wish is that more
women around the world could achieve
their dreams and make their lives
better. Although this might sound
impossible, programs like World Education's
Saving Women's Lives in Senegal make
this happen by providing opportunities
for small loans and access to credit.
Women like
Sokhna
Niang are changing their lives
and their communities for the better.
I know there are many other women
in Senegal, Mali, Indonesia, and
elsewhere who wish they were able
to gain financial independence, support
their families, and ultimately increase
their sense of self worth.
Without opportunities, like the opportunity
to start their own small businesses,
women are unable to provide for their
children, are left vulnerable to
exploitation, and have an increased
risk of contracting HIV.
I hope that you will
join
me today in making wishes come
true for these women.
I made my gift to World Education
in honor of my mother, who was raised
to be taken care of, graduated from
college the day after I graduated
from high school, and now takes care
of thousands as the CEO of a U.S.
non-profit organization. My sister
and I learned how to be strong and
independent women from her example.
Who
will you honor by granting a wish?
