The Health Care Learning Network (HCLN™) is a project to further develop and implement a customized online and face-to-face system through which front-line health care workers gain the academic and personal skills necessary to enter and succeed in college health care programs. Ultimately, these HCLN™ Scholars will fill a growing industry need for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and other advanced allied health occupations. Along with the U.S. Department of Labor, the project has received funding through the Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund with fiscal oversight provided by the Commonwealth Corporation. Workforce and community partners include the North Shore Workforce Investment Board (WIB), the Greater Lowell WIB, Metro Southwest REB, North Shore Career Center, MassBay Community College, and Framingham Adult ESL Plus. Employer partners include Kindred Healthcare, Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Metro West and North Shore Medical Centers, along with 1199SEIU Funds/Boston.
As the educational provider, World Education has designed, piloted, and provided four online courses and instructor facilitation at the college prep level: Computers for College, Reading & Writing, Basic Math Review, and Health Science.
