Susan Kajura brings nearly 20 years of professional experience to her roles as Uganda country director and regional advisor of Bantwana. As chief of party for the Children First program in Zimbabwe, Susan and her team built a globally recognized program for vulnerable children during a period of intense economic and social turmoil. Before joining World Education's Bantwana Initiative, she was executive director of Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans, leading her team through an organizational restructuring process that improved the quality of care services to more than 70,000 orphans and vulnerable children. Susan has worked extensively with communities and civil society organizations in developing and implementing HIV programs in areas such as education, youth, capacity building, and home-based care in Uganda. In 2002, she was awarded the MacMillan African Writers Prize for Most Promising New Children’s Writer for Africa.
