Massachusetts Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs provide opportunities for adults to develop the literacy and English language skills needed to earn their high school equivalencies, further their education, enroll in job training, and obtain better employment. There are currently 19,000 adult learners enrolled in these programs with another 15,000 on wait lists.

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) funds the System for Adult Basic Education Support (SABES) professional development system, comprised of eight topical centers, and two centers for system coordination and communication, respectively. World Education houses the SABES Professional Development Center for Education and Career Planning (CECP) one of the eight statewide topical centers.

The SABES CECP provides professional development opportunities that build the capacity of Massachusetts Adult Basic Education field to design and implement programming that fosters career readiness for all students. The CECP provides support to advisors, instructors, administrators and programs to implement effective education and career advising, planning for next steps, and Adult Career Pathways programming.
