College for a Day

One way to encourage adult basic education (ABE) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students to see college as a next step in their educational journey is through a variety of simulated college experiences. This promising practice shares the lessons of two successful “College for a Day” programs located in different parts of the country: Massachusetts and Texas. Features common to both programs include students’ participation in classes taught by college professors, a catered lunch, guided tours, student panels, and information on admissions and financial aid. Each practice description includes tips to make College for a Day a valuable experience for adult students. World Education, 2008.
