Propagating Promising Practices for Literacy and Workforce Development at Libraries

States: California, Illinois, Maine, Rhode Island

Client(s): IMLS/PPL

Service: Technical Assistance and Coaching

Expertise: Integrating Technology in Learning

Public libraries are effective and welcoming community hubs for lifelong learning, digital inclusion, and economic equity. This project amplifies this role and expands access to adult learning, in partnership with the Providence, Chicago, and Los Angeles public libraries. We documented and disseminated three innovative, technology-enabled practices in place at those partner libraries: Learning Lounges, Mobile Learning, and Learning Circles. The project piloted the implementation of these practices in six additional libraries in order to learn how the practices could be adapted and combined for libraries of diverse sizes in rural and urban communities nationwide. The project website provides guidance, examples, and tools for implementation. This project was funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under its competitive National Leadership Grants.
