On International Literacy Day this year, World Education was honored by the U.S. Library of Congress with a 2022 Literacy Award for Successful Practice in literacy promotion. World Education was recognized as a leader in using a comprehensive approach to improve educational systems and reduce barriers to equitable literacy attainment.

Each year, the Library of Congress recognizes national and international organizations that provide innovative and replicable strategies for combating illiteracy. The awards not only aim to raise awareness on the importance of promoting literacy, but also to strengthen literacy initiatives and encourage collaboration among implementing organizations.

Literacy means you can absorb information yourself and make your own decision, and that is freedom,” said Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden

World Education’s literacy work across its U.S. and international divisions ranges from using the expertise of our EdTech Center to adapt technology and meet the needs of learners to working with national and local governments and education systems to enhance curriculum and instruction.

We want to congratulate our staff and diverse partners in more than 20 countries for their dedication and expertise in advancing education, and social and economic development. Literacy is the foundation of all learning, is a human right, and at the core of what we do at World Education.
