Our work in Uganda has focused on strengthening the capacity of groups that deliver HIV and AIDS education, services, and support to vulnerable children and families affected by HIV.

Through various projects, we have built the capacity of Ugandan NGOs to plan, implement, and monitor HIV and AIDS education across the nation. We have also worked closely with the Ministry of Education and Sports to ensure community involvement in education to improve children’s learning and retention in school, increase parent-child dialogue and teacher-parent dialogue, and empower parent-teacher associations to increase parental and guardian involvement in children’s education.

We build capacity, coordination, and advocacy at all levels in Uganda—from children and households to community responses to district and national mechanisms—to address service delivery gaps, expand access, and improve service quality.

All our efforts complement and strengthen existing systems and initiatives, test new innovations, and scale up evidence-based approaches that improve access to critical services and build resiliency to prevent and respond to HIV, violence, and other vulnerabilities.

In Uganda, the Bantwana Initiative is focused on the needs of orphans and other vulnerable children and works to address and prevent violence, neglect, and abuse in schools by engaging teachers, school management, children, caregivers, and communities.
