Sidekim Foods “English for Success!”

CLIENT

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

LOCATION

United States

In Massachusetts, more than one-third of the state’s 3.2 million workers do not have the skills required to perform in the state’s rapidly changing economy and need adult basic education services. World Education's collaboration with Sidekim Foods in Lynn, MA is bridging that gap for the workers at Sidekim Foods through on-site English language classes. The project, named English for Success!, offers four hours of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes per week on fully paid release time.

Through instruction customized to this workplace, Sidekim Foods employees are gaining the English skills they need to become more self-reliant and effective at work, and grow their careers. Sidekim Foods is confident that as employees improve their English language skills, they will see increased productivity and collaboration in the workforce. The project is supported by a stakeholder oversight team which includes a student, Sidekim supervisors and leadership team, as well as World Education staff. Funding for this project is through a three-year grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
